PLANS to construct a new cinema and restaurant complex at the MK1 Park near stadium:mk secured Crown Estate funding earlier today. (18/09)
The plan to build a £25million development will be supported by a partnership of the Crown Estate and InterMK, which owns the land around the MK Dons stadium.
Included in the proposals is a brand new 15 screen Odeon IMAX multiplex cinema.
There will also be eight restaurants in the complex, which have been pre-let to tenants such as Nando’s, Frankie and Benny’s, T.G.I. Fridays, Bella Italia and Prezzo. The plot is intended to open in 2014.
James Cooksey, head of The Crown Estate’s regional portfolio, said: “Our investment will build on the success we have had with the MK1 Shopping Park and the partnership we have established with Pete and his team. The scheme will make a fantastic addition to our portfolio.”
The Crown Estate and InterMK have previously collaborated on delivering the original MK1 shopping park next to the stadium, which was opened in 2012. The Crown Estate recently strengthened its portfolio by buying the DW Sports Centre from InterMK for £7million. However, this will be firm’s first major investment project outside London.
Pete Winkelman, InterMK and MK Dons owner, said: “I am delighted we are once again working with The Crown Estate. The MK1 Shopping Park has been a huge success and I believe the new IMAX cinema and restaurant complex will be equally as popular.”The new MK1 Leisure Park will only strengthen the overall site’s reputation as one of the most popular leisure destinations in Milton Keynes and the wider region.”
Plans for a new IMAX cinema in Milton Keynes were proposed in October 2012. As yet it is unknown what these proposals will mean for the future of the existing Odeon cinema at the Point in the city centre.
